When you use Shopify’s services, the text “Powered by Shopify” is displayed by default at the bottom of your screen. However, it is possible to remove the “Powered by Shopify” text from the footer of your website. In this article, we will explain to you how to do it in a few simple steps.
Sectioned and Non-sectioned themes
There are two ways to remove the “Powered by Shopify” text. However, only one method is applicable to you. The method depends on what type of theme you use. There are two types of themes on Shopify, Sectioned themes and Non-sectioned themes. Sectioned themes are relatively new, these themes let you drag and drop elements to customize your store layout.
Before choosing the method, you have to confirm which type of theme you are using. You can check this by going to the theme’s Edit code page. Once there, check the Sections category. If there are files in the Sections category, you are using a sectioned theme. If there are no files in the Sections category, then you are using one of the Non-sectioned themes.
Steps to remove the “Powered by Shopify” text
The steps vary a little based on the type of theme. They can be done either on your computer (PC or Mac) or smartphones (Android or IOS)
For Sectioned themes
- Go to Online stores →Themes from your Shopify admin page.
- Find the theme you are currently using, and then choose Actions → Edit code.
- Find the {{Powered_by_link}} code and delete it.
- Some themes may have {{Powered_by_link}} code more than once in them, make sure to delete them as well.
- Save and close.
For Non-sectioned themes
- Go to Online stores → Themes from your Shopify admin page.
- Find the theme you are currently using, and then choose Actions → Edit code.
- Click on your theme’s liquid file from the Layouts folder.
- The code will open in an online code editor. Find the {{Powered_by_link}} code and delete it.
- Save and close.
After that the “Powered by Shopify” text will no longer appear on your store page until you decide to change to a different theme, which will require you to go through these steps once more.
